Displays: A Collection Of The Former Maharaja's Possessions

The New Palace in Kolhapur houses the Shahaji Chhatrapati Museum- a weird array of the former Maharaja's possessions, who recently died in 1983. British architect Charles Mant designed the New Palace in 1881 in the Indo-Sarcenic style.

The museum contains an unusual and interesting collection of the former Maharaja's possessions from guns to pig-sticking trophies to clothes. There is a large, excellent weapons collection, including a gold-plated, double-barrelled shotgun, some swords, and other guns. One of Aurangzeb's swords is also present in the collection.
